Motor Drivers
Motor driver modules — L298N DC motor driver, A4988, TMC2208 and TMC2209 stepper drivers, ULN2003. A driver turns the microcontroller signal into the current a motor needs — an Arduino cannot drive a motor directly.
Motor Drivers — buying guide
What is in this category
5 products: ULN2003 Stepper Motor Driver, L298N Motor Driver Module, A4988 Stepper Motor Driver, TMC2209 Stepper Motor Driver (Silent Driver + Cooler), TMC2208 Stepper Motor Driver (Silent Driver + Cooler).
How to choose
- L298N — 2 DC motors or 1 stepper, 5–35V, 2A per channel; the standard for robot chassis.
- A4988 — bipolar steppers (NEMA17), 1/16 microstepping, 2A; 3D printers, CNC, RAMPS compatible.
- TMC2209 / TMC2208 — silent A4988 replacement (StealthChop), 1/256 microstepping; the 2209 is UART-tunable and delivers more current.
- ULN2003 — small unipolar steppers like the 28BYJ-48; 4 pins from the Arduino.
- Set the A4988/TMC current with the potentiometer to the motor rating — otherwise the motor overheats.
Compatibility
All work with Arduino, ESP32 and 3D printer boards (RAMPS, SKR); AccelStepper library for stepper drivers.
