Real-Time Clocks (RTC)
Real-time clock (RTC) modules — DS1302, DS1307 and DS3231. They keep the date and time on their own battery when the Arduino loses power: clocks, timers, scheduled irrigation and data logging.
Real-Time Clocks (RTC) — buying guide
What is in this category
3 products: DS1307 RTC Real Time Clock Module (24C32), DS3231 RTC Real Time Clock Module (AT24C32), DS1302 RTC Real Time Clock Module.
How to choose
- DS3231 — the most accurate (±2 s/month), temperature compensated, I2C, with AT24C32 EEPROM; the recommended choice.
- DS1307 — the classic I2C module with 24C32 EEPROM; accuracy depends on temperature (±1 min/month).
- DS1302 — cheapest, 3-wire interface; simple projects.
- A CR2032 cell lasts 3–5 years; most modules ship with one.
Compatibility
The RTClib (Adafruit) library in the Arduino IDE supports all three; 3.3V/5V.
