How to choose

  • HC-05 — 6 pins, master or slave; can also link two Arduinos; works with Android.
  • HC-06 — 4 pins, slave only, the simplest; drive a robot from a phone.
  • HM-10 / AT-09 (BLE 4.0) — works with iPhone too, low power; genuine HM-10 uses the CC2541 chip, AT-09 is its cheaper compatible.
  • PAM8406 / VHM-314 — receives audio over Bluetooth and drives 2×5W speakers; wireless speakers, car audio.

Compatibility

HC modules connect to the Arduino over UART (RX/TX), 3.3V logic — a resistor divider on RX is recommended; SoftwareSerial library.
